J24 Introductory Sailing The courses use the Yachting NQ owned J24 fleet, plus a privately owned J24 when available. So that personal guidance can be assured, numbers are limited and there is often a waiting list.The courses are available to Cairns residents only. Over six sessions the experienced volunteer skippers supervise and guide applicants into the rudiments of safe sail boat operation. We aim to promote the sport of sailing by building confidence in the basic boat handling skills to becoming a competent crew experienced enough to take part in regular sailing events arranged by Cairns Yacht Club and the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron. For those new sailors wishing to gain the further experience required to gain certification for Boat Safe, VHF Radio or a Competent Crew ticket, the Combined Clubs arrange more advanced courses with qualified instructors
Approximately four or five courses will be conducted yearly and to date all courses have been completely filled well ahead of the start date. However you should register your intent to participate in a later course by registering at the CYC office during working hours or by email on the link below. |
Introductory courses in sailing keel boats are offered throughout the year depending on the demand and the availability of experienced volunteer skippers from the Cairns Yacht Club and the Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron. 
The cost currently is a Yachting Queensland affiliated membership at either Cairns Yacht Club or Cairns Cruising Yacht Squadron. These are the clubs that are subsidising use of the yachts. NB. This may vary in the future.
