Catering/Functions
The Cairns Yacht Club is becoming increasingly more popular as a venue for functions, including weddings and Birthday parties and groups and even just a group of friends for dinner on the veranda overlooking the club’s white sandy beach and the tranquil waters of Trinity Inlet. We are able to cater for a wide range of functions and enquiries can be made via our telephone and/or email address.
Restaurant
The Boateez Bistro is run by a well known local chef and sailor, Ian Candy, and his expertise has allowed him to create a wonderful menu with a range of meals that vary as much in price as they do in flavours and taste sensations.
Eat in the air conditioned comfort inside or outside on the raised timber deck or right out on the verandah overlooking the private sandy beach and Trinity Inlet.
Bar
Step back into the true colonial days in the Bar of the Cairns Yacht Club. The building was erected in 1917 and though had a “setback” due to a cyclone in the early 20’s has stood the test of time since then. The existing building is over 84 years old and the bar area and surrounding walls of the club are covered with photo’s and memorabilia dating back to the turn of the century. The main railing along the bar front was in fact the main mast of one of the famous 18 foot timber skiffs.
The club is basically set on one huge timber dance floor – well three actually, as the first two got worn out – and it is the largest and only remaining natural sprung dance floor in North Queensland.
Prices are set below the prices in the surrounding major hotels and Members naturally a discount. Friday nights feature a live guitarist and every Thursday night it’s Jazz, Jazz and Jazz featuring many of Cairns' best musicians. tropicjazz.org.au
The Cairns Yacht Club offers the following facilities to it's members, and any visiting yacht persons:-
- Keel boat sailing including Divisions 1 & 2, large Multihulls.
- Dinghy sailing with Lasers, Vagabonds and Puffin Pacers.
- Off the beach catamaran sailing - from the Ellis beach site.
- Bar and Restaurant with panoramic water views,
- Male and Female toilets and showers.
- Laundry facilities,
- Locker storage,
- Dinghy/tender storage (limited)
- In
conjunction
with a local shipyard, full hardstand facilities including 140 tonne travel lift, engineering and paint shops.
- Pool table
- Large Screen television.
- Developments are currently in progress to also offer J24 class yachts on a lease basis, for those people who want to get out on the water and sail/race but do not own vessels. (See the J24 Program page for more details.)
- Located right in the heart of the city near supermarkets.
- A friendly and welcoming atmosphere to all visitors.
- A victualling facility will also be offered to visiting yachts in the near future. - more on this later in the Current Developments page of our website.
