(Wednesday Afternoon Gentlemen’s Sailing)

The CYC is the place to be on a Wednesday afternoon in Cairns. With club members making their yachts available for visitors and locals of Cairns to experience the delights of sailing in a tropical setting, with backdrop of Cairns City on one side of the inlet and the green hills of the Murray Prior- Range on the other a relaxing days sailing can be found at yacht club.

Registration for boat allocation begins at 12:30pm at cost of $15.00 with sailing starting at 2.00pm and finish at around 4.30pm followed by a sausage sizzle on the clubs balcony. Entry fee includes the sailing and a beer or wine and the sausage sizzle.

 

Junior Sailing
The CYC conducts a junior sail training program for youths aged 10 to 16 years of age. The CYC uses the Yachting Australia training scheme Get Into Small Boat Sailing (GISBS) which takes a youth from a raw beginner through to a winning skipper in club racing.
The CYC provides a youth trainee with a junior membership of the CYC, YA log book, certificate on completion of course, insurance through YAI, the use the clubs training vessels, life jacket and a qualified instructor.

The course is a 5 week program at a cost of $120.00 held on a Sunday morning between 10:00am and 12:00 noon at the clubs Wharf Street address.

On successful completion of the GISBS the student will be allegeable to enter Saturday afternoon dinghy racing using the clubs own Puffin Pacers.

Saturday Dinghy Racing

The CYC conducts dinghy racing using its own Puffin Pacers on Saturday afternoon .Rigging and registration begins at 12.30pm racing starts at 2.00pm with 3 races finishing around 4.00pm at a cost of $10.00 per person.


Keel Boat Racing:

The CYC have small but very competitive fleet of keel boats that race on regular basis. The fleets are divided into 1st and 2nd division mono hull and multi hull with a boats handicap deciding its division. The fleet ranges from 14 meter racing boats to 7 meter trailer sailors. The sailing calendar allows for a variety of racing with round the buoys to over night off shore racing.

The club has a fleet of J24’s at it’s disposal for Team and Match racing events and are available for sailing members of the club to use in club racing and sailing.
